| Pharmacognosy has undergone significant change in recent years and today represents a highly interdisciplinary science, which is one of the major areas of pharmaceutical education. The research activities of the Department of Pharmacognosy cover the fields of phytochemistry (isolation and study of the structure of natural compounds), Standardization (quantitative and qualitative analysis of drugs and pharmaceutical products extracted from medicinal plants), Study of the dynamics of accumulation of bioactive substances in medicinal plants, Chemotaxonomic studies, In-vitro cultures (regulation of biosynthesis of natural products in plant cell and tissue cultures), Taxonomy and mapping of higher plants, advanced instrumental methods of natural products analysis, traditional medicine and clinical trial of herbal medicines. |

| Prof. A. N. Kalia Head of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry Dept, supervises various research project(s) on medicinal plants: extraction, characterization and biological evaluation for antidiabetic, anticancer, hepatoprotective and nootropic activities. The renaissance of herbal medicine in this country creates a demand for studies in the field of pharmacognosy. |
